robo.sprintMT is Malta’s national robotics competition for students aged up to 16. It's an exciting new initiative, launched in 2025 and organised by the Directorate for STEM & Vocational Programmes (DSVP) within the Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research & Innovation (MEYR). The event aims to become a fixed highlight in the national education calendar.
robo.sprintMT challenges students to design, build, and program real-world systems using any platform, such as Arduino or Raspberry Pi, in response to a surprise theme announced after registration closes. The focus is on applying creativity and technical skills to tackle meaningful problems related to a particular theme.
Competition Highlights:
Teams of 2–4 students receive a starter kit and may use additional resources of their choice, up to a set budget limit.
On competition day, participants get a 3-hour live window to build, code, and present their project.
Winners receive custom trophies, tech gear, accredited courses, and national recognition.
The main objective of robo.sprintMT is to stimulate interest in coding and robotics, while nurturing innovation, teamwork, and problem-solving. The initiative also aligns with MEYR’s broader mission which is to bridge the gap between education and industry, ensuring that what students learn in classrooms is relevant and contextualised to the realities of the modern workplace.
